“Very cool” Marin climate and energy event

Mike Sandler, Aaron Daly, and Ann Hancock address a Marin audience.

On December 3, 2004, a Climate and Energy event at Mill Valley Community Center drew a standing room only crowd of about 300 people. They came to hear Ross Gelbspan, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter and the author of "Boiling Point", as well as an all-star supporting cast including Local Power’s Paul Fenn.

Campaign Coordinator Ann Hancock addressed the crowd before Gelbspan’s speech. Campaign associates Mike Sandler and Aaron Daly, who wore black and sunglasses like Keanu Reeves in The Matrix, joined her on stage. Ann began her presentation by stating with mock seriousness, “These are two of the people who protect the climate in Sonoma County. People who protect the climate are very, very cool.” She challenged Marin to have all its cities pledged to protect the climate – like Sonoma does – by the end of 2005. The Sierra Club called the Climate Protection Campaign “perhaps the nation's best grassroots effort” on climate action.

Congratulations to the event's volunteer executive producer, WaterPlanet Environmental Broadcast Service (WEBS), and hosts Sustainable Marin, the Sierra-Club, MarinCAN, Local Power, and more.
