Description of the event
Cool Schools, a program of the Climate Protection Campaign, is working with over 400 high school art students from six high schools in Sonoma County to create socially-based art on the theme of global warming. The artwork and other exclusive items will be auctioned to benefit the Cool Schools program and our goal to support climate protection initiatives and student leadership at every high school in Sonoma County. We are expecting over 200 attendees at the event, which will take place at the Glaser Center in Santa Rosa from 6:00-9:30 PM on Friday, November 17, 2006.

The show will highlight work from approximately 50 students. The students artwork will be accompanied by a “thesis statement” based on their research and class discussions, and the artwork will be selected based on artistic quality and the student’s thesis. We will also hold a live action at the event with high-value items, including professional artwork from Sonoma County artists, a private tour of Steve Oliver’s Geyserville ranch and art installations, and several exclusive vacation packages (with zero-emission offsets, of course).

In the words of environmental author Bill McKibben, “art, like religion, is one of the ways we digest what is happening to us, make the sense out of it that proceeds to action.” Our goal is to take global warming out of the realm of science and politics and into the visions and minds of the next generation.
