Bay Area Air Quality Management District

The Climate Protection Campaign will soon receive a $75,000 grant from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to advance the development and dissemination of the most promising local and regional climate protection innovations. Work will be conducted in conjunction with Sonoma cities, the Counties of Sonoma and Marin, and the Marin-based Waterplanet Alliance. A focus of the grant-funded program is exploring the feasibility of Community Choice Aggregation, one of the most promising local solutions for significant greenhouse gas emission reductions.

Other awardees in Sonoma include the Accountable Development Coalition; the Cities of Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa, and Sebastopol; the County of Sonoma, and the Sonoma Ecology Center.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District Board of Directors in December awarded $3 million in Climate Protection Grants to Bay Area local governments and nonprofits for implementation of innovative projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Over 80 applications for funding were received. This $3 million represents the largest single source of funding available for climate protection projects in the Bay Area, and makes the Air District one of the top funders of climate protection activities in the country. Grants will go to local governments and non-profit organizations in all nine of the Bay Area counties.
