Young people have a pressing stake in today's decisions that impact tomorrow's choices. They can play an important role in public decision-making. Voice of the Future encourages government and business to consider future generations in their decisions.

Youth involved in Voice of the Future have made presentations about climate protection to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, and to the Santa Rosa, Sebastopol, and Windsor City Councils. They have also addressed local realtors about saving energy and about the Green Schools program. Civic engagement helps youth transition successfully to adulthood and become responsible citizens.

"If I could get adults and politicians to do one thing, I'd have them break our dependence on oil and coal."
— Kirk Tolfa, Occidental, 11 years old

"I think people will work hard to make this a beautiful planet. Some things may happen that I'm afraid of, but I think people will work hard to keep it safe for us."
— Maya Lopez-Sanchez, age 10, Mark West Elementary

"To protect the environment, I think adults need to think more about their children and each other. Now people are too focused on themselves."
— Geoff Fisher, Sebastopol, age 14

"Everyday I inhale problems related to the health of the planet, and I exhale sustainable solutions."
—Katie Elliot, Montgomery High School

"There is infinite wisdom in sharing the voice of your heart."
—Flavia Weedn

"Speak up even if your voice shakes."

Voice of the Future is a project of the Climate Protection Campaign, enabling people and communities to bring about real change in their own backyard.
